These slippers are so cozy-warm and stylish, the kids love wearing them inside and out! And I love them because they're so easy to clean, put on, take off, and pack for any trip (and the regular…Continue

Just jumping in about the Mountain Mama gear : It is AWESOME - true to size, durable and a great way to have things to wear POST baby too! THey are going to be on Good Morning America TOMORROW!
I'm not a first time mom. I know my body pretty well and I do use Bella Bands for comfort and to hide my sidefat while nursing. ;) I'm not at all slim, but I can't really do non-maternity stuff worn below the waist, even with a bella band. Even when very pregnant. It falls down.
My regular attire is wrap skirt + leggings. So I was hoping for silk thermals to wear under cotton leggings. Doubling up on cotton is all bulky feeling.
Oh you'll get big enough eventually for Bella Band - they go above the waistband. For first time moms who are slim it can be an issue to keep ANY maternity clothing up at first, but once you hit the last 2 months you will get a bump big enough. Btw, I also wear maternity leggings with the full belly coverage. Not everyone likes the huge swath of fabric, I find it snug and cozy myself. Anyhow, the leggings I bought can go under nearly anything.
I can't wear regular stuff below the belly--I don't have enough of a rear to keep it up, even with a bella band. I can't do wool. I wear yoga pants sometimes, but I still need another layer on my legs for hours spent outside in winter.
I wear maternity yoga pants most days after 6 pm - (I carry very big so not is comfy these days). But if one is smaller in how they carry, mens versions can work. I use a Bella Band at times but.....I find I over heat wearing that thing! I get so warm in the belly, yuck!
Have you thought of using your favorite thermals and wearing them under your belly and then using a belly band for your belly? I found them to be too tight I have sensory issues as well but maybe it would work for you. I sometimes tied a scarf around my mid section. I really like the Icebreaker thermals they are really warm and made of wool maybe they would work in a bigger size? Oh other idea, yoga pants that have that flap that folds over for a skirt/ ripple effect. I used a pair of Prana yoga pants during pregnancy and during cold days I would put that big flap of fabric over my belly. no one noticed because the flap was under my t-shirt.
I'm pregnant and need some thermals, preferably silk. The only maternity thermals I see anywhere are the Mountain Mama ones, but I cannot wear Polartec next to my skin. No can do. I do not have a big belly (actually, no belly at all at 18w), but I can't really have anything which binds. What have other folks done? I'm debating just buying some regular silks and sewing a wedge panel into the belly, but I hate having seams next to my belly skin, even if I flip the stuff inside out, I know the seams are there. I might just have to use circular/tube knit cotton and make a very wide/foldover yoga pants style waist for it, but I'm not sure I'll like that, either.
Yeah, sensory issues/sensitive skin + maternity gear is a ridiculous combo. Layering cotton leggings hasn't been sufficient. Thoughts?
Everytime I hear that someone else is pregant I am so jealous. enjoy the pregancy the most that you can. It is a gift and yes try out that Mountain Mamas stuff
Tawnee I am the Mountain Mama rep. I also am pregnant with our second and I don't wear anything other then MM. Even before I got pregnant I was wearing the gear. I am not sure what will be on the planetgear.com site for the products, but if it is the Whitney, Tenaya, or Dana tops they were running a touch small. If you are a small, buy a medium. The following seasons run true. As far as comfortable it is incredible. It is great technical gear, so wicking, form fitting, etc etc. Also the baselayers are great. The biggest seller is the Fairview Jacket, but I don't think that will be on the sale. As far as to when to stop hiking.... never! You can hike up to the end of pregnancy, just listen to your body. I never stopped hiking with the first and don't plan on it with this one either :-) Let me know if you have any more MM questions!
